POLICE HUNT THREE AFTER FATAL HIT-AND-RUN NEAR EDINBURGH AIRPORT
Police are searching for two women and a man who fled on foot from a fatal hit-and-run crash on the A8 near Edinburgh Airport. The collision involved four vehicles — a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, a grey Skoda Karoq and a grey Hyundai i30 — between the Newbridge and Gogar roundabouts at approximately 09:25 on Tuesday. The 58-year-old driver of the Hyundai i30 was pronounced dead at the scene. A police helicopter and dog unit have been deployed to locate the three people who left the area before officers arrived.
Four other people were taken to hospital for treatment following the crash but were later released. The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit and a critical care paramedic to the scene. The A8 was closed for several hours to allow investigation work to proceed, reopening at 19:05.
Inspector Thomas Mallinson stated that thoughts were with the family of the deceased during this difficult time. He said that establishing the full circumstances of the crash remained a priority and that tracing the three people who left the area before police arrived was vital. Police Scotland has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
