POLICE HUNT SUSPECTS AFTER OFFICERS INJURED AT PORTSMOUTH PROTEST

MON 07 SEP 2026 CRIME

Police are searching for individuals who injured officers and damaged vehicles during anti-migration protests in Dover and Portsmouth. Hampshire and Isle of Wight police stated that a number of police, Coastguard and Border Force vehicles were damaged when hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Portsmouth. A small number of officers received treatment at the scene for injuries, though the force said no one in attendance from any agency or the public was seriously injured.

Police minister Sarah Jones said in the House of Commons that there was "no excuse for threatening behaviour or serious disruption" and that offenders would "face the full force of the law". Ms Jones stated that authorities have full government backing in taking necessary steps to uphold public safety. She cautioned that those who "cross the line from peaceful protest into illegality will face the full force of the law".

The incidents occurred during protests focused on migration policy. The police search for suspects remains ongoing. No arrests have been reported at this stage.
