OLE MISS BEATS LOUISVILLE 41-38 IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL OPENER

Ole Miss defeated Louisville 41-38 in their opening college football match on 7 September 2026. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss completed 21 of 36 passes for 336 yards, threw three touchdowns and one interception, and ran nine times for 60 yards and a rushing touchdown. Lucas Carneiro kicked the winning field goal as time expired.

The two teams combined for over 600 yards of offensive yardage in the second half of the match. Chambliss, listed at 6-foot-1, transferred to Ole Miss from Division II Ferris State and became a starter in his fifth year of college football. He led Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff in the previous season after arriving as a little-known prospect who was not initially expected to start.

Scouts have raised questions about Chambliss's draft prospects for the 2027 National Football League draft, citing his height, age and time spent in college football as potential limiting factors. His performance against Louisville may strengthen his case as the college football season progresses. Ole Miss entered the match ranked ninth nationally, whilst Louisville was ranked twenty-fourth.
