FURY SEEKS USYK TRILOGY AFTER JOSHUA TALKS STALL

MON 07 SEP 2026 BOXING

Tyson Fury has called for a third fight against Oleksandr Usyk, saying he is searching for an alternative opponent after negotiations with Anthony Joshua stalled. In a video posted on social media, Fury accused Joshua of withdrawing from their scheduled November 20 Netflix bout and called him a "weak-minded piece of s**t". Fury said he cannot force Joshua into the ring and has turned his attention to Usyk, who defeated him twice in 2024 via split decision and unanimous verdict. Fury challenged Usyk to meet him again in November, asking whether the Ukrainian wants to fight this year or is "calling it quits".

Both fighters had signed separate contracts to headline a Netflix event on November 20. Joshua's contract stipulated the bout must take place in the United Kingdom, whilst negotiations had explored New York's Madison Square Garden as an alternative venue. After their respective warm-up fights in July, those financing the event reportedly preferred it to be held in the US. Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn subsequently confirmed that talks had reopened for a clash on British soil. Separately, Dana White, through his company Zuffa Boxing and the TKO Group, had suggested involvement in promoting the fight, triggering a dispute with Hearn over promotional control and venue.

Fury and Joshua have been negotiating a fight for more than a decade without ever meeting in the ring. Previous attempts to arrange a bout collapsed in 2021 and 2022. A stalemate of three to four years followed before negotiations resumed earlier this year. The sequence of recent developments—venue disputes, promotional disagreements and now Fury's public challenge to Usyk—suggests the November 20 showdown with Joshua remains uncertain.
