ROB REINER WINS POSTHUMOUS EMMY FOR THE BEAR
Rob Reiner has won a posthumous Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy for his role in The Bear at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys ceremony. The award marks the longest gap between acting wins in Emmy history at 48 years, breaking a record previously held by Reiner's father, Carl Reiner. Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the trophy on Reiner's behalf, and the announcement prompted a standing ovation from the audience, with fellow The Bear guest star Jamie Lee Curtis among those paying tribute.
Reiner was killed alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, in December at their Los Angeles home. Their son Nick Reiner has been charged with stabbing them to death and has pleaded not guilty. Reiner's win comes 48 years after he won an Emmy in 1978 for his acting work on All in the Family, his second acting Emmy award. He competed against Michael J Fox and Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow's Bay, Christopher McDonald for Hacks and Connor Storrie for Saturday Night Live. Reiner is the first posthumous Emmy winner in an acting category since Raul Julia in 1995.
The ceremony also saw other significant wins across multiple categories. Apple TV's horror-comedy Widow's Bay led early winners with eight trophies, whilst HBO's medical drama The Pitt secured four awards. Ernest Harden Jr, age 73, won his first-ever Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Drama for his role in The Pitt. Linda Cardellini and David Harbour both secured their first career Emmy awards for their roles in the HBO series DTF St Louis.
