ISRAELI-AMERICAN COUNCIL PETITIONS ED SHEERAN TO DROP MACKLEMORE FROM TOUR
The Israeli-American Council has launched a petition calling for Ed Sheeran to remove rapper Macklemore as the support act on his United States tour. The petition follows Macklemore's performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, during which he chanted "Free Palestine" and performed his song "Hind's Hall", which addresses Gaza. The advocacy group accused Macklemore of using a concert platform to promote a "one-sided political agenda".
Macklemore stated that sharing his message of peace and solidarity with Palestine was a primary motivation for joining the tour. The rapper performed as the opening act at MetLife Stadium on two dates and is scheduled to appear at eight further dates on Sheeran's tour through to November. The performances formed part of Sheeran's Loop tour.
Macklemore has not issued a statement in response to the petition. Ed Sheeran has not commented on the Israeli-American Council's call to remove Macklemore from the remaining tour dates. The petition represents one of several responses to Macklemore's on-stage political statements during the tour.
