AMAZON CARGO PLANE CRASHES AT MIAMI AIRPORT; FIVE DEAD

SUN 06 SEP 2026 NORTH AMERICA

A Boeing 767 operated by Amazon Prime Air overran the runway whilst landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, striking multiple vehicles and catching fire. The aircraft, arriving from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, came to rest beside a roadway near parked semi-trucks. According to Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, five people were killed and five others injured in the incident. More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to extinguish the blaze, which sent thick plumes of smoke into the air.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a full ground stop at Miami International Airport, shutting down all runways as emergency crews responded to the crash. The ground stop was subsequently changed to a ground delay, with the FAA reporting average flight delays exceeding six hours until Monday at approximately 4 a.m. The National Transportation Safety Board announced it was gathering information about the incident. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel confirmed the crash in a statement, saying the company was working with local authorities and prioritising the safety and well-being of those involved.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that FAA investigators were being dispatched to the airport. The incident represents a significant disruption to one of the United States' busiest aviation hubs. The NTSB investigation is ongoing, and further details about the cause of the runway overrun are expected as the inquiry progresses.
