OASIS DOCUMENTARY RECEIVES STANDING OVATION AT VENICE FILM FESTIVAL

SUN 06 SEP 2026 FILM

Oasis's documentary Don't Look Back In Anger received an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival on 5 September. Noel and Liam Gallagher attended the premiere together, making their first off-stage public appearance in Italy since the band's reunion. The film, produced by Steven Knight and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, centres on the band's 2024 reunion and their Live '25 tour dates. At the end of the screening, the Gallaghers held hands and raised them triumphantly whilst receiving applause, before descending into the crowd to sign autographs.

The brothers arrived at the festival by small boat and posed for photographs beforehand. They did not attend the subsequent press conference, which was instead attended by Knight, Southern and Lovelace. One report noted that Noel appeared to wipe tears from his eyes during the standing ovation, whilst Liam was seen mouthing remarks before being convinced to remain by Knight.

Don't Look Back In Anger will be released in cinemas worldwide, including on IMAX screens, from 9 September for a limited theatrical run. The documentary will stream on Disney+ around the world, and on Disney+ alongside Hulu in the US, from a later date in 2026. One review awarded the film four-and-a-half stars, describing it as "masterfully done" and noting that it "reclaims the narrative" around the band whilst documenting "one of the most momentous, miraculous tours of modern times".
