BRYCE HARPER RECORDS 1,000TH HIT FOR PHILLIES IN SEATTLE

SUN 30 AUG 2026 US SPORTS

Bryce Harper recorded his 1,000th hit for the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday at T-Mobile Park, becoming the first Phillies hitter to reach that milestone since Ryan Howard in August 2011. Harper achieved the landmark with a single off Logan Gilbert. The milestone comes eight seasons after the Phillies signed Harper to a 13-year, $330 million contract ahead of the 2019 season.

Harper's form at the plate has intensified throughout August following his move from first base to right field, a positional shift made to accommodate the Phillies' deadline trade activity. An MLB analyst said Harper deserves consideration in the National League MVP conversation, citing his defensive adjustment and on-field performance. Harper is currently leading the league in walks with 94, having drawn 28 in August alone, and has maintained a career-high 30-game on-base streak. In August, Harper recorded a batting average of .338, a slugging percentage of .600, 27 homers and 12 RBIs, with an on-base plus slugging figure of 1.109.

Harper has started all 135 games this season despite dealing with a sore knee. His hitting coach Kevin Long expressed surprise at Harper's current offensive output, asking Harper directly how he was achieving his performance. Harper told reporters he had not consciously altered his approach and was simply playing the game, with walks coming naturally rather than by design.
