WAKEFIELD TRINITY BEAT YORK KNIGHTS TO SECURE PLAY-OFF PLACE

Wakefield Trinity defeated York Knights 28–12 at the DIY Kitchens Stadium on 29 August 2026, securing a place in the Super League play-offs. Tries from Corey Hall, Lachlan Walmsley (two), Jayden Myers and Max Jowitt, with four goals from Jowitt, secured the win. York scored tries through Ben Jones-Bishop and Xavier Va'a, with Jon Bennison converting twice. The victory ended Trinity's three-match losing run.

Trinity moved two points clear in fourth place and six points above seventh-placed St Helens following the result. Head coach Daryl Powell's side had threatened a top-two finish during a seven-match winning run earlier in the season but suffered defeats to Wigan Warriors, St Helens and Leeds Rhinos. York, who entered the match 18 points behind Trinity, have now lost four games in a row and remain level on points with fourth-bottom Hull.

Trinity's prospects of securing home advantage in an eliminator play-off fixture may depend on their final home game of the regular season next Saturday against Warrington Wolves, who sit four points above them. Warrington remain within reach of the top two following their win at Hull FC. Jones-Bishop marked his first appearance for York since a home defeat by Wakefield on 27 March, having been hindered by injury throughout the season.
