ENES KANTER FREEDOM CHALLENGES MEGAN RAPINOE TO FOOTBALL MATCH FOR $5M CHARITY BET
Enes Kanter Freedom offered Megan Rapinoe $5 million for any charity of her choice if she defeated him in a one-on-one football match. Freedom made the challenge on Fox News on Thursday night, stating he would determine both the location and timing of the game. The offer followed Rapinoe's comments on her podcast criticising Freedom's stated position on women's protection.
Rapinoe retired in 2023 after 203 appearances for the United States national team, recording 63 goals and 73 assists, along with two World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal. Her jersey number 15 was retired by her former club Seattle Reign FC in 2024. On her podcast, Rapinoe had questioned Freedom's motivations, saying "People who are 'trying to protect women'... It's yourself. It's a big mirror."
The exchange stems from an earlier incident at a Chicago Sky game where Freedom claims he was ejected following a conversation with Sky player Natasha Cloud about his support for Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham. Sky owner Michael Alter compared the ejection to firing a gun without warning, a characterisation Freedom rejected. Freedom stated he and his legal team would pursue action against Chicago Sky and Alter over the ejection.
