WARRIORS OFFER CURRY $136.7M TWO-YEAR EXTENSION

SAT 29 AUG 2026 US SPORTS

The Golden State Warriors have tabled a veteran maximum extension worth $136.7 million over two years to Stephen Curry, according to reports. The offer comes amid discussion about whether the franchise has done enough to retain its franchise player. Robert Guerra, a commentator, argued on The Odd Couple show that Curry should accept the extension and finish his career with the Warriors, stating the organisation has built multiple competitive rosters around him.

Guerra contrasted Curry's situation with that of other stars including Kevin Garnett, Damian Lillard and LeBron James, who he said had legitimate grounds to seek moves after their organisations failed to construct teams capable of competing. The Warriors, he noted, have repeatedly reconstructed their roster to support Curry since drafting him. The first championship team in 2015 centred on Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, supplemented by Andre Iguodala, Shaun Livingston and Leandro Barbosa. After losing the 2016 Finals, the franchise acquired Kevin Durant, producing what Guerra described as one of the greatest teams he has witnessed.

Following Durant's departure, the Warriors built a third iteration around Curry by developing Jordan Poole and acquiring Andrew Wiggins. That roster won the 2022 championship. Guerra stated the Warriors organisation demonstrated consistent effort to build championship-calibre teams rather than allowing the franchise to decline around its star player.
