SIX INJURED AFTER SIGN FALLS AT CHRISTIAN FESTIVAL IN WEST SUSSEX

FRI 28 AUG 2026

Six people were injured after a sign fell at the Big Church Festival near Steyning in West Sussex on Friday afternoon. Emergency services were called to Wiston Park at approximately 15:30 to 15:40 following reports of multiple people requiring medical attention. Ambulance crews, critical care paramedics and specialist response teams attended the scene, according to South East Coast Ambulance Service and Sussex Police.

The Big Church Festival, which describes itself as the UK's biggest Christian festival, cancelled Friday's proceedings following the incident. Organisers instructed all day visitors to leave the site immediately and asked campers to return to their campsites and await further updates. Campers were also permitted to leave the site if they chose to do so. Traffic disruption was anticipated in the area, with Sussex Police urging members of the public to seek alternative routes.

Sussex Police confirmed officers were called to the site off Washington Road and remained at the scene. Organisers stated they would provide further updates as soon as possible. The nature and extent of the injuries sustained by those affected have not yet been detailed in available reports.
