BOSCHELE FINISHES FIFTH AFTER CONTACT WITH REAVES AT SPRINGFIELD MILE

FRI 28 AUG 2026 F1/MOTORSPORT

Gavan Boschele finished fifth at the Springfield Mile after contact with Max Reaves in the closing stages of the Allen Crowe/Calypso 100 race. Boschele, 18, had moved into contention after improving his No. 25 Toyota during a stage break and overtook Reaves on Lap 97 by splitting the field on the frontstretch. With three laps remaining, Boschele held the lead. Contact from Reaves' car struck Boschele's rear bumper as both drivers entered Turn 1, sending Boschele's vehicle toward the inside retaining wall and ending his bid for victory.

Reaves, a 16-year-old Joe Gibbs Racing development driver, had dominated the race by leading 98 of 100 laps from pole position. The early phases favoured Reaves, who controlled the Springfield Mile for nearly the entire afternoon until slower traffic allowed Boschele to mount his challenge. Boschele acknowledged that his car lacked pace in the opening stages before setup changes improved its performance. The decisive moment came when Boschele spotted an opportunity as Reaves encountered traffic involving Takuma Koga on Lap 97.

Boschele discussed the incident on the Rubbin Is Racing podcast, stating that Reaves "just dumps everybody" and expressing frustration at finishing fifth after being positioned to win. Boschele noted that the contact occurred between drivers of different age groups, with Reaves at 16 and himself at 18. The incident marked the conclusion of a race that had seen Boschele work his way from a difficult start toward a potential breakthrough win in the ARCA Menards Series.
