DE ZERBI TARGETS ONE MORE SIGNING AS TOTTENHAM DEADLINE LOOMS
Roberto De Zerbi has expressed interest in adding one further player to Tottenham's squad before Tuesday night's transfer deadline, following a dinner with the club's ownership and senior executives to discuss final recruitment options. Spurs have completed two signings from Manchester City this week: Savio in an £85 million deal and Omar Marmoush on a season-long loan with an obligation to make the transfer permanent, with a potential total fee of £60 million. De Zerbi stated he would consider outgoing transfers alongside further incomings, naming midfielder Pape Sarr as a possible departure. The manager said: "I think we can do one player more and in one specific position."
Tottenham's summer spending has surpassed £350 million, according to one account. Marmoush, Tottenham's eighth summer signing, scored 37 goals during an 18-month spell at Eintracht Frankfurt and added 16 at Manchester City. De Zerbi described both Savio and Marmoush as high-level additions and said the transfer window has exceeded his initial expectations. The manager indicated Marmoush may feature on the bench when Newcastle visit on Saturday, whilst Mohammed Kudus, out since January with a thigh injury, could return to the bench for the same fixture.
De Zerbi held discussions with Tottenham chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange and his assistant Enrico Venturelli to assess recruitment priorities. The manager stated that players wishing to leave must do so calmly and without disrupting the dressing room environment. He indicated that clarity with his squad regarding departure possibilities had been established from the outset.
