MIN WOO LEE LEADS TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER OPENING 62
Min Woo Lee shot an eight-under 62 in the first round of the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta to take the lead. Lee's bogey-free round equalled his best score on the PGA Tour at the season-ending event. The Australian golfer holds a two-stroke advantage over Norway's Viktor Hovland and American pair Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup, who all stand at six under.
Lee played most of his round without a partner after American JJ Spaun withdrew through injury after four holes. Lee said the situation required him to manage his pace carefully to avoid catching the group ahead. England's defending champion Tommy Fleetwood shot four-under 66 to sit four strokes back, whilst world number one Scottie Scheffler carded five-under to remain in contention. Scotland's Robert MacIntyre signed for three under after recording an eagle from over 30 feet on the sixth hole.
Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, bidding to win a record-extending fourth Fedex Cup, shot 68 after a mixed start that included two bogeys in his first four holes. All 29 players who completed their rounds finished at par or better. The winner will claim the Fedex Cup and a £7.4 million prize, with the final round scheduled for Sunday.
