FRI 28 AUG 2026 US SPORTS

Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS broadcaster, has been cited on three additional charges stemming from a traffic stop on 23 July in Milwaukee. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the citations were filed on 27 August for first-offence operating while intoxicated, unsafe passing on the right, and possession of an open intoxicant in a motor vehicle. Romo had previously received a citation for performing poorly on field sobriety tests following the initial arrest.

The traffic stop occurred on southbound Interstate 43 at approximately 5:30 p.m. after officers pulled Romo over for a traffic violation and suspected him of driving under the influence. Body-camera footage showed Romo speaking with a deputy at the scene. During field sobriety testing, conducted in a parking garage, Romo reported having undergone back surgeries and asked about contacting his lawyer before being taken into custody. He was later released.

A spokesperson for Romo told media outlets that he is taking responsibility for his actions and working with local authorities to resolve the matter. CBS placed Romo on leave eight days after his arrest and promoted J.J. Watt to replace him on the network's top broadcast team. Romo's CBS contract contains four years remaining with a total payout of $72 million; the broadcaster's legal situation and employment status remain unresolved.
