CYBER ATTACK ON THREE UK AIRPORTS EXPOSES DATA OF MILLIONS

A cyber attack on three UK airports exposed the personal data of nearly nine million holidaymakers, according to reports. Manchester Airport, Stansted Airport and one further airport were targeted in the breach. Among the information accessed were phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers and postcodes. One report put the figure of affected customers at 8.7 million.

The airports affected hold significant volumes of passenger and visitor data as major transport hubs serving millions of travellers annually. Manchester Airport and Stansted Airport are among England's busiest regional airports, handling considerable numbers of domestic and international flights. The specific methods used by attackers and the identity of the responsible group have not been confirmed in available reports.

No statement on remedial action or official notification to affected passengers has been confirmed at present. The airports have not yet released formal guidance on what steps customers should take to protect themselves. The Information Commissioner's Office has not yet issued a statement on the incident.
