BOY INJURED IN CROCODILE ENCLOSURE DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL

TUE 25 AUG 2026 CRIME

A three-year-old boy who was thrown into a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire on 18 June has been discharged from hospital and returned home. His family said in an update that he is "happy to be home, playing with his toys, sleeping in his own bed and being a big brother". A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident and was later bailed after police assessed him as unfit for interview.

The child underwent seven operations during his hospital stay, though his parents confirmed that all immediate surgeries are now complete. A GoFundMe fundraising page established to support the family's financial needs and the boy's recovery has raised more than £113,000 to date. The family said the donations have covered immediate costs including bills and mortgage payments, and compensated for lost wages during the period of hospitalisation.

The boy's rehabilitation journey continues at home, with his parents attending hospital appointments frequently to determine next steps in his care. The family said they are working together as a unit to support his recovery and to ensure he has "the best possible chance at recovery". The parents stated they will remain by their son's side throughout his ongoing rehabilitation process.
