MANCHESTER CITY TO RENEW BID FOR ENZO FERNANDEZ

TUE 25 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Manchester City are expected to submit a fresh offer for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez this week, according to transfer reporting. The Argentine international was named as a substitute in Chelsea's 3-2 opening-day Premier League victory against Fulham on Monday, with manager Enzo Maresca selecting Romeo Lavia and Reece James in midfield instead. Manchester City had previously been linked with Fernandez throughout the summer transfer window but appeared to have missed an unofficial deadline set by Chelsea earlier this month.

A verbal exit clause valued at £120 million was discussed, but Manchester City declined to meet that figure at the time the arrangement was proposed. According to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano, negotiations had stalled on that basis. However, Romano reported on Monday morning that City were prepared to return to the negotiating table with a new proposal. Chelsea's position, as relayed through Romano's sources, indicated the club could still consider an exit if presented with sufficient financial terms and if they could strengthen their squad elsewhere.

Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a reported fee of £106.8 million, making him the club's most expensive signing at that time. His inclusion on the bench against Fulham, having featured regularly in pre-season, fuelled speculation about his future. City's renewed interest comes as they seek reinforcements in midfield during the final week of the summer transfer window.
