ROSS CHASTAIN RULED OUT OF NASCAR CHASE AFTER NEW HAMPSHIRE ENGINE FAILURE
Ross Chastain has been eliminated from contention for the NASCAR Chase after his No. 1 Chevrolet suffered mechanical failure during the Dollar Tree 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Engine problems forced Chastain's car into the garage after 41 laps whilst running inside the top 12. He finished the race with a single point and a Did Not Finish result. Chastain had entered New Hampshire needing to reduce a 63-point deficit to remain in championship contention.
The failure represents a significant setback for Trackhouse Racing, which has struggled this season across oval racetracks. Prior to New Hampshire, Chastain had finished seventh at Iowa and 12th at Richmond, showing recent improvement in performance. A separate driver at the team, referred to as SVG, led 30 laps during the New Hampshire race whilst running on wet-weather tyres and started from fifth position, indicating the team has begun to find competitive speed. Despite these gains, Chastain's overall record reflects substantial difficulties; he has recorded no race victories in a streak dating back to last year's Coca-Cola 600.
Following the race, Chastain stated that the team had improved its machinery and performance over the season. He said he does not want to be labelled a spoiler if Trackhouse achieves a race victory in the remaining 10 Chase races. Chastain acknowledged that improvement in NASCAR is difficult to achieve and attributed the team's recent gains to sustained work on car development. The engine failure at New Hampshire now eliminates any path to a championship this season.
