MEGHAN MARKLE WITHDRAWN FROM GUY RITCHIE NETFLIX SERIES
Meghan Markle's prospective casting in Season 3 of Guy Ritchie's Netflix series "The Gentlemen" has been withdrawn, according to Tina Brown, former editor of Vanity Fair. Brown reported on Saturday that the casting decision was reversed because "the backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward". The role would have marked Markle's first major acting project since stepping away from the industry in 2017 following her engagement to Prince Harry.
Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, had recently revealed plans to relocate back to the United Kingdom, a move that was reportedly influenced in part by the potential acting opportunity. Netflix has not officially greenlit Season 3 of "The Gentlemen", though Guy Ritchie has confirmed the series will continue. Entertainment industry figures stated that producers remain willing to work with Markle if she returns to acting in future.
Brown, who has written two books about the Royal Family, disclosed the withdrawal of the casting offer through her Substack newsletter. The decision represents a reversal from earlier reports of preliminary talks between Markle and producers over a possible role in the third season of the gangster series.
