BRYDON CARSE WITHDRAWN FROM ENGLAND SQUAD PENDING INVESTIGATION
Brydon Carse has been withdrawn from England's squad for the second Test against Pakistan following an incident in Derby on Saturday night. Video footage emerged showing the fast bowler being detained by police during a night out. The Cricket Regulator confirmed it would investigate the episode after a referral from the England and Wales Cricket Board. Carse will not be available for selection while the investigation proceeds and facts are established.
The 31-year-old was scheduled to join his England team-mates in London on Monday evening ahead of a training session at Lord's on Tuesday, but was stood down pending the inquiry. Hampshire seamer Sonny Baker, who made his debut at Lord's earlier in the summer when other players were stood down in similar circumstances, has been added to the squad as bowling cover. The incident marks another alcohol-related matter involving England cricketers within a short period.
The Cricket Regulator, an independent disciplinary body, will conduct the investigation as the ECB stated it would obtain the full facts of what occurred. The outcome of the inquiry will determine whether further action is taken against Carse. No confirmed date has been announced for when the investigation will conclude or when the player might be reconsidered for selection.
