ANTON STACH SCORES LATE WINNER AS LEEDS BEAT FOREST
Anton Stach scored a free-kick in the final minutes of normal time to give Leeds United a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The goal came after Nikola Milenkovic challenged Stach on the edge of the penalty area. Matz Sels, Forest's goalkeeper, got a hand to the effort but could not prevent it from crossing the line. The result marked the opening game for Oliver Glasner, Forest's fifth head coach in less than 12 months.
Leeds created the more threatening chances throughout the match. Harry Wilson had what would have been a debut goal disallowed for offside in the first half after latching on to Jayden Bogle's pass. In the second half, Sels made a strong save to deny another Leeds debutant, Tarik Muharemovic, a £34 million signing from Sassuolo, from scoring with a header. Glasner selected neither Ousmane Diomande, a £34 million arrival from Sporting, nor Xaver Schlager in his starting eleven.
Forest offered little attacking play and rationed Leeds to few defensive moments. The hosts had a chance approaching half-time when Neco Williams met Ola Aina's cross from the right, but Milenkovic and Jair Cunha's subsequent heading effort struck the post. The two sides meet again in a Carabao Cup fixture on Tuesday.
