CAITLIN CLARK DONATES £1,600 TO FUNDRAISER HONOURING LATE FAN
Caitlin Clark, a guard for the Indiana Fever, donated $2,000 (approximately £1,600) to a fundraiser established in memory of Jessica Schoffel, according to reports. Schoffel, who operated the X account @FeverBandwagon and was an active member of Clark's fan community, passed away on 17 July aged 44. Clark's contribution was listed as the largest single donation on the GoFundMe page for the fundraiser.
Schoffel was an elementary school teacher from Trumansburg, New York, and had participated in the construction of the original Trumansburg Community Playground during her childhood. The fundraiser aims to provide Buddy Benches—structures designed to help children combat isolation and bullying—and children's books for classrooms in the local area. According to the fundraiser's description, the benches encourage students to practise empathy and invite their peers to join in play, which were priorities in Schoffel's classroom.
Clark's donation drew attention from fans and members of the media, with several commenting online to acknowledge the gesture. The Indiana Fever player has previously engaged in charitable work through the Caitlin Clark Foundation. The fundraiser is continuing to collect donations to complete its stated goal of installing the benches and distributing books to local schools.
