APPLE CUTS OVER 200 JOBS IN VISION PRO AND SIRI TEAMS

Apple has cut more than 200 jobs across its Vision Pro and Siri divisions as the company realigns its priorities towards artificial intelligence and smart glasses development. According to reports citing Bloomberg sources, approximately 100 positions were eliminated from the Vision Pro team, with a further 100 cuts affecting Siri and the Intelligent Systems Experience division, which focuses on integrating AI into devices. Apple acknowledged the restructuring in a statement, saying the changes reflected "a changing product mix" and that whilst new roles would be created, existing positions would be affected. The company stated it remained committed to supporting affected employees with transition assistance and opportunities to apply for other roles within Apple.

The Vision Pro cuts are concentrated on teams working on gaming and immersive video content. One account attributes this focus to Apple's assessment that the cost of producing immersive video content is not justified given the limited Vision Pro user base. The headset, priced at $3,699, has not achieved significant market adoption. The Siri cuts centre on teams supporting the older version of the voice assistant, as Apple's new AI-based Siri system requires personnel with different expertise. Reports indicate Apple is shifting resources away from Vision Pro development towards smart glasses technology that would not support immersive video or gaming features.

Apple has confirmed that Vision Pro and its VisionOS operating system will continue, with reports suggesting a new model may arrive as early as 2028. The company is redirecting engineering resources towards artificial intelligence development and next-generation hardware platforms. These layoffs represent part of a broader strategic pivot within Apple away from its existing spatial computing products towards emerging AI and wearable device categories.
