HOUSTON TEXANS SIGN VETERAN RECEIVERS SHEPARD AND JONES
The Houston Texans have signed wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones, according to reports from the NFL Network. The signings follow an injury to Jayden Higgins that will sideline him for the season. The Texans also conducted a workout with wide receiver Josh Reynolds on Friday.
Shepard was selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft and spent his most recent two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2025, he recorded 38 receptions for 371 yards and one touchdown, alongside four carries for 19 yards. Over his career, Shepard has appeared in 90 games with 74 starts for the New York Giants during his first eight professional seasons, accumulating 443 receptions for 4,800 yards and 25 touchdowns across all teams. Jones was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft and most recently played for the Arizona Cardinals. He caught 12 passes for 183 yards in eight games last year and has recorded 307 receptions for 3,295 yards with 18 touchdowns across 123 career games and 69 starts with the Buffalo Bills, Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Cardinals.
Houston faces the Las Vegas Raiders in its preseason contest on Thursday evening, with a preseason finale scheduled for the following Friday against the Carolina Panthers. The Texans' receiver depth has been substantially affected by injuries to their existing roster.
