AMY HUNT CLAIMS SILVER IN LAUSANNE 200M AFTER HISTORIC EUROPEAN HAUL
Amy Hunt finished second in the women's 200 metres at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, clocking 22.32 seconds in a photo finish. American Kayla White won the race in 22.18, with Nigeria's Favour Ofili taking third place just three-thousandths of a second behind Hunt. The result came a week after Hunt won four gold medals at the European Championships in Birmingham, becoming the first athlete to complete that quadruple in a single edition of the championships.
The 24-year-old British sprinter had won the 100m, 200m, women's 4x100m relay and mixed 4x100m relay at the European Championships. In Lausanne, former world champion Shericka Jackson withdrew from the 200m race on the bend with what appeared to be a leg injury, whilst two-time Diamond League champion Brittany Brown did not start the race. Elsewhere in the meeting, world and Olympic champion Mondo Duplantis set a new meeting record of 6.21 metres in the pole vault, securing gold ahead of Greece's Emmanouil Karalis and Australian Kurtis Marschall.
The Diamond League calendar continues with meetings scheduled for Silesia, Poland on 23 August, Zurich, Switzerland on 27 August, and a final meeting in Brussels, Belgium on the weekend of 4 and 5 September. Hunt's performances this outdoor season have marked a significant run of form, beginning with silver in the 100m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow before the extraordinary week in Birmingham.
