NETFLIX UNVEILS LIVE-ACTION SCOOBY-DOO: ORIGINS SERIES FOR 2027
Netflix has released first-look images for its upcoming live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins, revealing the real dog cast as the titular Great Dane. The eight-part series is scheduled for release in 2027. The show follows teenage versions of Daphne, Shaggy, Velma, and Fred as they become involved in a supernatural murder mystery alongside a Great Dane puppy. Tanner Hagen, Maxwell Jenkins, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Mckenna Grace play Shaggy, Fred, Velma, and Daphne respectively.
The reveal of the real dog prompted divided reactions from fans online. A number of viewers argued that the animal resembles a Labrador rather than the stylised Great Dane depicted in the original animated series, suggesting the casting fails to capture the character's familiar appearance. Others defended the choice, noting that Great Dane puppies naturally have soft, floppy ears rather than the cropped ears seen in the cartoon. Veteran voice actor Frank Welker is set to reprise his role as the voice of Scooby-Doo.
Scooby-Doo: Origins represents Netflix's entry into live-action adaptations of the long-running Hanna-Barbera franchise. The series functions as a prequel, depicting the characters before the events of the original cartoon. The confirmed eight-episode run positions it as a substantial production rather than a standalone film. Netflix has not announced a specific release date beyond the 2027 window.
