OFCOM LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION INTO SKY NEWS OVER FARAGE COMPLAINT
Ofcom has launched a formal investigation into Sky News following a complaint submitted by Reform UK on behalf of Nigel Farage. The media watchdog will examine allegations of unfair treatment and unwarranted infringement of Mr Farage's privacy. The complaint concerns a Sky News report in which reporters approached a property linked to Mr Farage whilst questioning his financial affairs.
Mr Farage accused the broadcaster of harassing his family in connection with the incident. Reform UK alleged in its complaint that the Sky News report portrayed Mr Farage unfairly and omitted critical context that should have been included. Sky News defended its editorial decisions, stating that its journalists were conducting routine journalism on a matter of public interest and denying that they had hounded Mr Farage or interacted with his daughter.
The investigation represents Ofcom's formal examination of the dispute between the broadcaster and Mr Farage's party. The media regulator will assess whether Sky News breached its broadcasting standards and editorial guidelines. The outcome of the investigation will determine whether the broadcaster faces any sanctions or further action.
