ARGENTINA PLAYERS BANNED FOR WORLD CUP FINAL BRAWL WITH SPAIN

FRI 21 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

FIFA imposed match bans on four Argentina players and suspended one team official following a scuffle with Spain after the World Cup final, according to reports. Two of the Argentina players received bans totalling seventeen matches between them. The Argentina Football Association was also fined by FIFA. The incident occurred after the final match between the two nations.

FIFA announced restrictions on attendance at Argentina's next two home matches as a result of the incident. The reports did not specify which players received which length of ban, nor did they detail the circumstances that triggered the scuffle. No comparable sanctions were issued to Spanish players or officials involved in the same incident.

The Argentina Football Association faced separate discipline following a separate incident involving a banner displayed during a match against England. Players were fined for that incident but escaped match bans. FIFA's decision to restrict fan attendance at Argentina's upcoming home fixtures represents an additional penalty beyond the individual suspensions and fines already imposed.
