ARCTOS PARTNERS TO BUY 10 PER CENT STAKE IN ATLANTA FALCONS

FRI 21 AUG 2026 US SPORTS

Private equity firm Arctos Partners has agreed to purchase a 10 per cent stake in the Atlanta Falcons at a valuation of $10.6 billion, pending NFL approval. The deal, reported by CNBC, would be completed in two tranches over the next 18 months, with a formal NFL vote expected in October. The Falcons become the seventh NFL franchise to sell a minority stake to a private equity firm since the league approved the practice in 2024.

The transaction values the franchise significantly higher than previous valuations. In September 2025, the Falcons were valued at $8 billion, placing them 11th among NFL teams; the new deal implies a valuation increase to $10.6 billion. Arthur Blank currently owns 73 per cent of the franchise, though reports do not clarify whether Arctos is purchasing from Blank's stake or from other limited partners. The NFL established rules limiting private equity ownership to 10 per cent per firm with no decision-making authority, and requiring a minimum six-year commitment of capital.

The private equity investment trend reflects broader changes in NFL ownership structure. In 2024, 31 of the 32 NFL teams voted in favour of permitting pre-approved private equity firms to acquire minority stakes. The league previously resisted such investments for decades before reversing course to provide franchises with additional capital access. Private equity stakes have become increasingly common across professional sports, with multiple NFL teams now valued above $10 billion following such deals.
