FORMER MR OLYMPIA BODYBUILDER DWAYNE QUAMINA DIES AT 40

FRI 21 AUG 2026

Dwayne Quamina, a former Mr Olympia bodybuilder and Navy veteran, died on Sunday at the age of 40. Quamina competed in a bodybuilding qualifier for the Mr Olympia competition six days before his death, finishing sixth in the 212-pound division at the Atlanta Pro event. The cause of his death remains unknown. He is survived by his wife, Leah, and two children.

Quamina, known professionally as "King Q", became a bodybuilder in 2016 after serving in the US Navy for 10 years. Days after the Atlanta Pro competition, he posted to his more than 114,000 Instagram followers: "Stop taking life for granted, go all the way and have zero regrets when it's all over!" and "If it was easy, everybody would do it. The best quality you can have is the ability to pick yourself up and go again, no matter how many times it takes. Watch what comes next!" A GoFundMe page established to support his family had raised more than $9,300 towards a target of $20,000 at the time of reporting.

Tributes to Quamina appeared from fellow competitors and colleagues in the bodybuilding community. Eight-time Ms Olympia winner Lenda Murray posted: "My thoughts and prayers are for the family. Sincere condolences." Bodybuilder Karol Małecki stated: "It's absolutely tragic. We competed together just a week ago at the Atlanta Pro. It's hard to believe he's gone." The GoFundMe page described Quamina as "a loving yet fierce man, someone who protected and provided for his family while uplifting others with his presence, kindness, and unwavering spirit."
