MAX VERSTAPPEN SIGNS RED BULL CONTRACT THROUGH 2030
Max Verstappen has signed a new contract with Red Bull Racing that will keep him at the team until the end of 2030, ending months of speculation about his future in Formula One. The four-time world champion's previous deal was set to expire at the end of 2028 and contained performance-based break clauses that would have permitted him to leave. Verstappen had been linked with potential moves to Mercedes and McLaren, and had also indicated that retirement from the sport was a possibility given his dissatisfaction with the current regulations.
Speaking ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Verstappen stated that he had been closer to retiring from Formula One than to switching teams. He said he felt no desire to change teams and expressed confidence in Red Bull's ability to deliver competitive results. Verstappen's previous contract included clauses that could have allowed him to depart at the end of the current season; the exact terms of the new agreement, including whether similar exit provisions remain, have not been disclosed. Red Bull have struggled this season under the 2026 rule set, with Verstappen currently sixth in the world championship, 110 points behind the title leader.
The announcement means that major seats across Formula One's leading teams are now confirmed for the coming years. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff had publicly expressed his desire to work with Verstappen, but with Kimi Antonelli established as their driver and George Russell confirmed alongside him, a move to the German manufacturer was not pursued. Verstappen's commitment to Red Bull provides the Milton Keynes-based team stability at the driver level despite their current competitive difficulties.
