DANUBE DROUGHT REVEALS CENTURY-OLD TUGBOAT AND ROMAN BRIDGE
A steam tugboat over 100 years old and an ancient Roman bridge have emerged from the Danube as water levels fall during an intense dry spell affecting Europe. The tugboat wreck and bridge became visible as the waterway, which runs across ten countries from southern Germany to the Black Sea, experienced significantly reduced water levels. According to one report, a British Second World War mine was also uncovered and subsequently detonated by Slovakian police. The drought has been described as among the worst in 70 years, exposing numerous historical relics across the riverbed.
