BRYSON DECHAMBEAU CRITICISES MEDIA AT PRACTICE SESSION
Golfer Bryson DeChambeau made critical remarks about media members at a practice session ahead of a tournament in Indianapolis. As DeChambeau arrived at the driving range, he spotted three reporters, including Golf.com's senior writer Sean Zak, and said aloud: "Oooh, the mafia has arrived. The mafia. You guys love talking s**t." According to Zak's account, DeChambeau was joking, though the golfer has previously expressed frustration with how he has been quoted and contextualised by media outlets. DeChambeau has maintained a prolonged media blackout, preferring to communicate directly with fans via YouTube.
The remarks come as LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed tour where DeChambeau competes, faces mounting legal and financial pressures. According to one report, LIV Golf is offering DeChambeau $500 million to remain with the tour beyond his current contract, which ends in 2026. The league has faced multiple lawsuits in recent months, including claims of unpaid invoices to contractors and vendors. Fresh Tape Media sued LIV Golf in New York for over $1.23 million in overdue invoices and interest related to producing the league's January preseason media event.
Additional legal action has been filed against the league. Long Island Spirits filed a federal lawsuit in March 2026 alleging trademark infringement and unfair competition over unauthorised use of 'LIV' branding. The accumulating legal disputes add to scrutiny surrounding the tour's financial stability and operational practices as it attempts to secure major player commitments for future seasons.
