HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER CAST NOT CLOSE, SAYS JOSH RADNOR

Josh Radnor has stated that the cast of How I Met Your Mother are "not even a little bit" as close as they were during the show's run. Speaking on the Half the Picture podcast, Radnor said he no longer maintains regular contact with his co-stars Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris, who appeared together on the CBS sitcom from 2005 to 2014. Radnor described the cast's relationship as having dispersed after the show ended, with members pursuing separate lives.

Radnor elaborated that he and Segel exchange texts occasionally when something reminds them of the show, but he has not seen Segel in a considerable time. He has interacted with Smulders "mostly on Zoom" following her appearances on the How I Met Your Mother rewatch podcast, whilst Hannigan attended his 2024 wedding to Jordana Jacobs, marking their last meeting. Radnor said he had a "really interesting conversation" with Harris on the How We Made Your Mother podcast in March that addressed tensions that existed on set.

Radnor characterised the cast's bond as resembling family rather than friendship, explaining that they were cast together rather than choosing one another. He acknowledged that audiences desire to believe the cast remain close, but stated the relationship is not an "active love" in the present day. Despite this, Radnor said he maintains affection for all his former co-stars and described any enduring bond as "quite deep and rich and probably everlasting."
