PAUL POGBA LEAVES AS MONACO AFTER CONTRACT TERMINATION

WED 19 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Paul Pogba has left AS Monaco following mutual contract termination, the club confirmed. The 33-year-old midfielder and the Ligue 1 side ended their agreement early, with Monaco stating that objectives set by both parties had only been "partially achieved". Pogba's contract had been scheduled to run until June 2027. He made six appearances for Monaco last season, five of which came as a substitute.

Pogba joined Monaco last summer after receiving clearance to return to professional football. He had served a doping suspension while at Juventus, which was reduced from four years to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in March 2025. Pogba, a 2018 World Cup winner, stated that representing Monaco "was an incredible experience" and said he remained grateful for the opportunity despite not playing as many matches as he had hoped. Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro said the club's ambitions remained valid and that Pogba's return to the pitch was significant, though the outcome differed from expectations.

Pogba is now a free agent and attracting interest from Major League Football clubs, with previous links to DC United and Inter Miami reported. He sustained a hamstring injury during Monaco's pre-season training in England last week, which could affect the timing of any move. A decision on his next club is expected in the coming weeks as Pogba considers his options.
