EMMA BARNETT RETURNS TO TODAY PROGRAMME AFTER HYSTERECTOMY FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS
Emma Barnett has returned to presenting BBC Radio 4's Today programme following a period away from the show. Barnett disclosed that she underwent a hysterectomy as a result of endometriosis. The presenter had been absent from her broadcasting duties for several weeks prior to her return.
Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, often causing pain and other complications. A hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus, is one treatment option available to those with the condition. Barnett's decision to speak publicly about her medical procedure and the condition that necessitated it adds to growing public discussion of endometriosis among public figures.
The Today programme is one of the BBC's flagship news and current affairs broadcasts, transmitted each weekday morning. Barnett's return to the presenter roster marks the conclusion of her medical leave. No announcement has been made regarding any permanent changes to the programme's presenting schedule.
