THREE FAMILY MEMBERS DIE AFTER GETTING INTO DIFFICULTY IN WATER OFF...
Three members of the same family died after getting into difficulty in the sea off Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, on Tuesday afternoon. A man, a woman, and a teenage girl entered the water for a swim and got into difficulty, according to Chief Superintendent James Collis of Sussex Police. A younger girl from the same family was rescued and taken to hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Emergency services, including HM Coastguard, the RNLI, Sussex Police, and air ambulances, were called to the area at approximately 3pm to 4pm.
All four members of the family were brought to shore. The coastguard confirmed it is not searching for anyone else. Chief Superintendent Collis stated that the family's next of kin have been informed. The incident occurred at Shoreham Fort and caused local travel disruption, with the A259 Brighton Road blocked in both directions.
Sussex Police asked anyone with information or video footage of the incident to contact them. Chief Superintendent Collis said the incident would have a profound effect on the community. The circumstances that led to the family getting into difficulty have not been detailed by police.
