JAMAL MUSIALA DIAGNOSED WITH ABSENCE SEIZURES AFTER PITCH COLLAPSES

TUE 18 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Jamal Musiala has been diagnosed with absence seizures stemming from a neurological dysfunction, the Bayern Munich midfielder revealed on Instagram. Musiala collapsed during Bayern's 4-2 friendly win at Heidenheim on Tuesday, six minutes after coming on as a substitute. The incident marked the second collapse in four days; he had previously collapsed during Bayern's 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig in Munich. Musiala stated that he is receiving excellent medical treatment and remains optimistic about his recovery.

In his statement, Musiala described the seizures as "temporary, brief, but easily treatable" and noted that they are "currently just part of my everyday life". Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the club was aware of the situation and said Musiala would address it publicly himself. The 23-year-old Germany international missed the first six months of the previous season following an ankle injury sustained at the 2025 Club World Cup. He returned to play and started three of Germany's four matches at the 2026 World Cup.

Musiala expressed gratitude for the support from Bayern Munich, his family and friends during his treatment. No timeline has been provided for his return to competitive football. The midfielder's medical team will continue to manage his condition as he progresses through treatment.
