TUE 09 JUN 2026 CRIME

Essex Police have arrested two people on suspicion of murder following the death of 12-year-old Bobby Bloomfield in Pilgrims Hatch. Bobby sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Ashwells Road and died in hospital shortly afterwards. Officers were called to the scene at approximately 5.40pm on Sunday. A 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man, both from the Pilgrims Hatch area, were arrested in connection with the incident.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that the detention periods of both suspects have been extended following a magistrates' warrant secured by the force. Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood said the investigation team has been working continuously to build a full picture of the incident. He noted that a significant amount of CCTV footage has been reviewed and key evidence gathered from witnesses in the area. Wood added that the work involves complexities that cannot be publicly disclosed at this stage.

Bobby's family, in a statement released through police, said he "brought light and life into all our lives" and that the hole he has left can never be filled. They asked for their privacy to be respected as the family comes together. Chief Inspector Terry Fisher, Brentwood district commander, noted that the incident has attracted commentary on social media and urged the public to respect the family's privacy. The force confirmed it is providing ongoing support to the family in the weeks and months ahead.
