MANCHESTER UNITED REJECT GALATASARAY INTEREST IN BRUNO FERNANDES

TUE 18 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Manchester United have rejected approaches from Galatasaray over their captain Bruno Fernandes, according to club sources. Galatasaray have prepared a bid reported at £43 million and offered Fernandes an annual salary exceeding €20 million on a four-year contract. Manchester United sources insist Fernandes is not for sale at any price this summer, and have not engaged with the Turkish club's enquiries.

A €65 million release clause for non-English clubs expired last month, removing a contractual path for Galatasaray to complete a transfer. Fernandes intends to remain at the club and is in talks with Manchester United to extend his current deal, which runs until next summer with an option to extend a further year. Turkey's tax system would allow Fernandes to substantially increase his effective earnings should he accept the move, with one account suggesting he could double his salary. The 31-year-old Portugal international delivered 21 assists in the 2025-26 season, a Premier League record surpassing Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry's previous mark of 20.

This follows Fernandes rejecting lucrative offers from Saudi Arabian clubs last summer, including approaches from Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad. Fernandes stated those moves were wrong for both football and family reasons. Manchester United sources have indicated any formal bid from Galatasaray would be rejected immediately, with club valuations of the player differing significantly from the Turkish side's €50 million assessment.
