FERY INCLUDED IN GB DAVIS CUP SQUAD FOR ECUADOR TIE

TUE 18 AUG 2026 TENNIS

Arthur Fery has been selected in Great Britain's Davis Cup team to face Ecuador in September, following his run to the semi-finals of Wimbledon in August. The team also includes Cameron Norrie, Henry Patten and Lloyd Glasspool, with a fifth player to be added closer to the competition. Jack Draper, the British number four, was not included in the squad. The tie will take place at London's Copper Box Arena on 19 and 20 September as a best-of-five match.

Fery, ranked 36th in the world, achieved a career-high ranking after his unexpected Wimbledon semi-final appearance as a wildcard. He entered the tournament ranked 114th and became the lowest-ranked player to reach Wimbledon's last four since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001. Draper's absence reflects his return from long-term arm injury; he broke down in tears whilst playing his first match since June earlier this month. His world ranking dropped from fourth to as low as 160th over a 12-month period owing to the injury layoff.

Fery described his selection as a source of pride and said he was ready for the pressure of competing in the World Group on home soil. The format comprises two singles matches on day one, followed by a doubles encounter and two further singles matches on day two. Fery's inclusion comes after he lost 7-5 7-6 (7-3) to Alex de Minaur in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters on Monday.
