RIO NGUMOHA TO LEAVE ENGLAND CAMP AFTER NEW ZEALAND DISPLAY
Liverpool forward Rio Ngumoha will depart the England training camp this week following his appearance in Saturday's 1-0 World Cup warm-up victory over New Zealand. Ngumoha, who is not part of England's 26-man tournament squad, entered the match as a second-half substitute and was named man of the match on his England debut. He was one of five supplementary players invited to the pre-tournament camp in Florida. England face Costa Rica on Wednesday in their final warm-up fixture before the tournament begins.
Ngumoha was originally brought into camp solely to participate in training, but Thomas Tuchel opted to use him during the New Zealand match. Because Ngumoha was not included in Tuchel's initial 55-man squad for the tournament, he cannot be called up as an injury replacement. Arsenal players Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke have now joined the squad having previously featured in the Champions League final. It remains unclear whether Ngumoha will feature against Costa Rica before his departure.
The main England squad will travel to their World Cup base in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday, following a behind-closed-doors training match against Miami United. England open their World Cup campaign against Croatia on Wednesday, 17 June. Ngumoha will take a holiday before joining Liverpool for their pre-season tour of the United States next month. Liverpool's youngest-ever scorer returns to club duties having made a significant impression during the international camp.
