REFORM UK DEPUTY LEADER SAYS CLIMATE CHANGE SHOULD BE 'CELEBRATED'

TUE 18 AUG 2026 UK POLITICS

Richard Tice, Reform UK deputy leader, stated during a party conference speech that the United Kingdom should embrace climate change rather than attempt to prevent it. Mr Tice acknowledged that climate change is real but argued that adaptation to warmer temperatures represents a more realistic approach than efforts to stop the phenomenon. He characterised attempts to halt climate change through policy as "arrogant" and encouraged people to focus on positive outcomes of warmer weather.

Mr Tice suggested that rising temperatures could benefit English wine and sparkling wine production, potentially allowing English producers to compete more effectively with French counterparts. He stated: "If it means that English wine and sparkling wine gets better and better, fantastic. That means we can take on the French, fantastic." Mr Tice framed warmer summers as an opportunity to be celebrated rather than a threat requiring mitigation.

The remarks reflect a policy position within Reform UK that diverges from the net zero commitments maintained by the major UK political parties. Mr Tice's comments represent the party's stated position that adaptation to climate change, rather than emissions reduction targets, should form the basis of environmental policy.
