JAMAL ADAMS OUT FOR SEASON AFTER VIKINGS PRESEASON INJURY
The Minnesota Vikings have confirmed that safety Jamal Adams will miss the entire 2026 season after suffering a knee injury during Saturday's preseason opener against the New York Giants. Adams hyperextended his right knee whilst dropping back into pass coverage in the second quarter at MetLife Stadium and was removed from the field on a cart. Head coach Kevin O'Connell stated he was "crushed" for his player following the non-contact injury.
Adams, 30, joined the Vikings this off-season on a one-year deal worth just over $1.4 million. He had earned first-team repetitions during training camp and was positioned to play multiple defensive roles under O'Connell, including near the line of scrimmage and in the slot. The veteran had spoken weeks prior of his willingness to take on any assignment the club required. O'Connell described Adams's contribution in the brief time before injury as exceptional, citing his passion, experience and toughness as significant additions to the organisation.
The injury represents a significant setback for Adams after several years managing physical difficulties. O'Connell confirmed the initial examination produced unfavourable results, and the diagnosis was subsequently verified by sources close to the club. The Vikings will now need to develop alternatives at the safety position for the 2026 season.
