CARRAGHER QUESTIONS TIELEMANS SIGNING, BACKS FERNANDES FOR UNITED

MON 17 AUG 2026 FOOTBALL

Jamie Carragher, a Sky Sports pundit, has stated that Manchester United should not have signed Youri Tielemans. Carragher suggested that Tottenham Hotspur's Mateus Fernandes would have been a better acquisition for the club. The former Liverpool player made these remarks in his capacity as a football analyst.

Tielemans joined Manchester United during the most recent transfer window. Fernandes currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur. Carragher's assessment represents a critique of Manchester United's recruitment decisions in midfield during the summer transfer period.

The comments form part of wider discussion about Manchester United's transfer strategy and squad composition ahead of the new season. Carragher's views reflect one analyst's perspective on the club's midfield options and their relative merits compared to available alternatives in the market.
