KYLE LARSON WINS KNOXVILLE NATIONALS AFTER FLYING FROM NASCAR RACE
Kyle Larson competed in two racing events across different states on the same weekend, flying from Richmond Speedway in Virginia to Knoxville, Iowa to contest the Knoxville Nationals. Larson had secured pole position for the Knoxville event after scoring the most points throughout the week, which coincided with the Cook Out 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond. He departed Richmond after his scheduled race, boarded a private Dassault Falcon 2000EX aircraft, and arrived in Knoxville in time to compete in the 50-lap final. Larson won the race from pole position, securing his fourth Knoxville Nationals Championship.
The flight tracking application FlightAware recorded over 6,500 people monitoring Larson's aircraft in real time, making it the most tracked flight globally that day. Larson had dominated the preliminary events throughout the week, including winning the Front Row Challenge on Monday and the Thursday preliminary race. A crew member was originally scheduled to replace Larson in the No. 57 car at Richmond owing to the scheduling conflict. Weather delays at Richmond provided the window that allowed Larson to complete both competitions.
Larson addressed criticism of his decision to compete in both events, stating that those watching should understand why the team entered the Knoxville Nationals and that the outcome vindicated the decision. Fellow driver Josh Berry described Larson as a "legend" following the victory. The dual-event weekend was described by observers as one of the most remarkable nights in motorsports history.
