SWIATEK DEFEATS RYBAKINA TO WIN TORONTO TITLE
Iga Swiatek claimed her first title of the season by defeating Elena Rybakina 6-2 6-3 in the final of the National Bank Open in Toronto. The Polish seventh seed secured an early break in the opening set after Rybakina, the world number two, committed back-to-back double faults. Swiatek extended her advantage through the match as unforced errors from Rybakina continued into the second set, including two missed backhands that resulted in a second break for Swiatek. Rybakina saved one championship point but Swiatek converted her second opportunity to win the match.
The victory represents Swiatek's first title since September of the previous year. Swiatek had maintained strong form throughout the tournament to reach the final. At the post-match awards ceremony, she addressed the crowd with remarks about persistence and self-focus. She stated: "Just keep pushing, keep growing, keep focusing on yourself because you know what's best for you. Always remember what's ahead and what might be possible."
Swiatek dedicated her victory to those she described as "dealing with unfair judgement and hate". The win marks a significant return to title success for the Polish player after an extended period without a championship.
